Holy cow... I'm on cloud 9!!!

The amazingly talented Kirsten from 6th Street Design School is featuring my house today!

I'm seriously not going to have to eat chocolate for like a week now :D

in his shoes - my husband's take on design

You know the story.  You fall in love with a room in a magazine or Pinterest and you show it to your husband or significant other.  You're met with "The Look" - a mix of confusion and disgust.  "Don't tell me you actually like that room?  No way... no way is that going down in our house."

What the heck doesn't he like about it?!?!?!  It's GORGEOUS!!!!

Jessamie from Bird and Branch Redesign did a super fun post with her husband where she showed him some of her saved rooms and got his take on them.  Absolutely hilarious and totally interesting to hear a husband's take on design.  I wanted to play along and do the same :)

I like the Thai "motif" they have going on.  Elephants are central to the culture in Thailand.  They need to get rid of the light fixtures.

Totally love it.  It's a nice mix of modern and rustic.  Would totally live in a place like that if my wife would let me.  Preferably on 160 acres.

Hate the windows, reminds me of an interior of a Southern Baptist church that has been redone.  I'm color blind, but I can still see lime green and I hate it.

Hmm... I think the decorator has a sick obsession with killing animals.  And they have the perfect opportunity to expose the beams in the ceiling to give contrast to the room.

Really like it.  Really, really like it.  Looks clean.  I like the desk.

Totally kicks ass, but could do without the zebra.  Not a big fan of the table, but I hella love the floor, like the color.  The table's really hokey though.

Umm... the focal piece is bad art.  Probably a fan of James Bond movies.  My grandmother had a table like that in 1970 - needs to be updated.

Too white.  Bed's pretty cool, but shouldn't there be a roof or a sheet on it?  It looks like you're kinda living in a cage.  I really like the design over all.

Egh...  Other than the great portrait of the dog, the room is hideous.  I hate robin's egg blue.  I think it's just ugly.  I think it lacks taste.  That's all I have to say.  Just don't like it.

Badass.  Other than the Marriott hotel looking bed, I really think it looks badass.  I like the room more than I like the furnishings.

color my world - week 4

Here we are!  Last work week of the Color My World Challenge!

This week we added color to our spaces through fabric.

I made pink lumbar pillows for the chairs flanking my sideboard.  This was actually the first thing I completed for this challenge.

(Psst... they are actually the same color - just photograph strange)

I wanted something patterned, but couldn't find anything local.  I would have just ordered fabric online, but pink is one of those colors you want to be sure of.  As the first round of solid pink fabric I brought home made the dining room look like a champagne room (if you know what I mean).

I would have LOVED to have made pillows out of this Manuel Canovas fabric.

You can pick up 10 yards on Ebay for $2,999.99.  Seriously.

Sooooo... that's not going to happen.  I found some other fabric I was sort of toying with.  But, I'm not sure which looks better - the solid pink or the floral.  What are your thoughts?  I'm tired of looking at it and need your help :)

honey!!! I need more soap!

I am sooo tired of yelling for more soap or more toilet paper from our master bath.  Ok yes, I could be proactive and prepare a little better.  But, sometimes it just doesn't happen.

More often than not I step into our shower before I realize we're out of soap.  UGH!!!

Then it's either yelling for help, or when alone (or completely ignored) I have to run through the bathroom soaking wet over to the extra soap.  Water gets tracked all over the place, and my absolute Fear Factor moment happens - loose hair stuck to the bottom of my wet feet.  Total. Freak out.

But no more!

Here is the most boring before picture you will ever see.  This is the completely unusable space above our toilet, right next to the shower.

Yep... didn't even bother watermarking it.  If someone really wants this photo, they can just have it :D

Here's the now completely useful shelving that will keep me sane!

Priorities are now close at hand :)

And hey, the toilet even looks prettier!  Although I am now getting a chuckle out of the photo I put on top - a large rock in water.  Bwah hahaha!!!

color my world - week 3

Time for this week's Color My World Challenge!

This week's challenge (and a challenge it most definitely was) was to incorporate pink through paint.  I can tell you right now, you are not going to see my dining room walls pink :D

I decided I wanted to give it a go at painting a, well... painting.

Good grief what a stress inducing task this was!!! Not the stress reliever I dreamt it to be... NOT EVEN CLOSE.  Is this the "painting" I imagined in my mind?  Nope.  But that's fine.  If inspiration strikes I'll give it another go, and if I strike it rich then I'll just buy some real art :D

I planned on just leaning it against the wall without a frame, but when I brought it in here the color was just way off (as is ALWAYS the case with this room).  The pink needed some separation from the green walls.

So I pulled out an old framed poster from my very first place. Believe it or not it was the PERFECT fit!  But, it was black, and the painting looked really sad framed in black. 

So, I sprayed it white and added silver to the corners. Adding to the corners was a little something I fell in love with when I saw Courtney do it in her home.

Having pink in here makes me want to paint the walls a different color in a bad way.  I'm thinking gray. To the To-Do list it goes!

Ok, so next week I'll be adding pink fabric.  It was actually the first thing I did when I started this challenge so I've had to toss it out of the way when taking progress pics ;)

quick & easy fabric headband

I made the easiest little headband for Izzy yesterday while she napped.

Praise the Lord, she took a nap!  Can I get an AMEN!!!

Planned on adding more to it, but figured sometimes it's best to keep it simple ;)

Supply List:

• fabric scrap approx 4" wide by 30" long
• headband template (found at end of post)
• iron
• scissors
• sewing machine and thread

Here we go!

STEP ONE: After cutting out the headband template (found at the bottom of the post), fold your strip of fabric in half and place your template on top. The very top of the template marked "fold" should line up with the fold in your fabric. Cut out your fabric leaving a 1/2" allowance. Note: you don't need an allowance at the fold.

STEP TWO: Fold in the long edges approx 3/8" and press with iron. Fold in again another 3/8" and again press with iron. This will hide your frayed edges.

STEP THREE: Sew your folded edges down, leaving the two end tails raw.

STEP FOUR: Fold in your two end pieces in on themselves twice and sew down.  Now go find a cutie-pa-tootie and tie that sucker on!

color my world - week 2

Time for Color My World!

Last week I showed you the inspiration photos for my color - hot pink.

This week the challenge was to add the chosen color in a decor item.  Here's what I did.

Pink peonies. 

I also threw in some long stems in a similar vase for the table in the background.  That side of the room really needed some height over there.  And by accident I ended up bringing blue into the room when I was searching the house for vases.  Sometimes accidents are a good thing ;)

What... you can't see the pink???

Yeah, it's not that noticeable in photos.  How about now?

Still kinda hard to see it :D

I promise next week, when I add hot pink through paint, it will be more exciting!

before I color my dining room

Tomorrow I'll be doing my post for the Color My World Challenge.  This week I'll be adding hot pink in the form of a decor item.

I've moved things around in my dining room since the last time I posted about it (during my chandelier meltdown) and I thought I'd show you how it looks today, prior to the color challenge.

Here we are before the switch up.

And here's where it currently stands - still a work in progress.

Changes:

• new chandelier
• removed slipcovers from chairs and rearranged head chairs
• removed hutch and added some accessories top of buffet
• added mirror and photos in place of hutch
• painted piano (more on that later)

There are still a TON of things I need/want to do aside from the challenge.  But, this gives you an idea of what it looks like currently, prior to the challenge.

Notice how there's missing hardware on the buffet?  Yeah, that's on the to-do list as well.  The more I cross of the list, the longer it gets.  Does that happen to you guys too?

took me long enough

The last time we scheduled photos for Izzy, she was 18 months old.  She's now 3.

I've been dying to get more taken, and to sneak in a couple of family photos as well.

A call to Tobi was in order.  I absolutely adore her.  She's done all of Izzy's photos since she was born.  You can check out Tobi's site Zanteen Photography here, and her blog here.

I actually love this one as it captures the sad face I see too often when Izzy doesn't get what she wants.  Saw it again tonight when I wouldn't give her chocolate before bed.
