sweet moments

I felt pretty blah this past week.

An overwhelming to-do list, this freaking ridiculous heat, and an off and on migraine had sucked me dry.

Yesterday I watched Izzy as she inhaled a popsicle.

I just love how something so simple can make a kid so happy.

I know it sounds silly, but she totally filled up my love tank in those few minutes.

This sweet little moment with Izzy was just what this momma needed :D

stacked topiary - tutorial

Do you remember the design board I won from Kristy at Hyphen Interiors that I posted about here?

For the mantel, she suggested a sunburst mirror and flanking it with topiaries.

Sunburst - check.

Topiaries - dragging my buns...

until a couple of days ago.

I was pretty happy with how the first one turned out so I decided I'd do a tutorial for you guys while putting together the second.

  • styrofoam spheres, one small and one medium
  • straight branch
  • sheet moss
  • oasis floral foam
  • small pot
  • hot glue gun and glue
STEP ONE:  Push the branch all the way through the larger styrofoam sphere, and push the tip of the branch halfway through the smaller sphere.  Sort of like a shish kabob :D  Once the spheres are placed to your liking, use your hot glue gun to run a bead of hot glue around where the sphere and branch meet to keep them from sliding.

STEP TWO:  Attach moss to spheres with hot glue.

STEP THREE:  Place oasis foam in the bottom of the pot and stick in your topiary.

STEP FOUR:  Hot glue moss to the top of the oasis.

Bada bing, bada boom, you're done :D

duck, duck, goose!

I've been promising Izzy we would go feed the ducks for a while now.

Each time we drive past this particular pond Izzy calls out from the backseat, "Duck, duck, goose!"

We finally went.

There was some of this...

And, a lot of this...

Makes me wish I would have taken her sooner :)

After we fed the ducks I came upon a sign that said PLEASE DON'T FEED THE DUCKS.  Hmm... wonder if that had anything to do with me accidentally almost killing one of these ducks several years ago, when I innocently threw one of them a piece of my sandwich.  Causing the duck to start choking...

I still feel bad :(

upcycled tie necklace - tutorial

A while back I did this post over at Green Eggs and Hamm for my amazingly talented and drop-dead gorgeous cousin, Amy.  It was such a fun post that I thought I'd post it again for anyone who didn't catch it.

And, if you didn't get a chance to stop by Amy's blog, do so quick fast and in a hurry because a) you'll LOVE her and be glad you did, and b) she has her very first giveaway going on right now!

So, here we go!

 Supplies

{trifted tie, suit button (or anything you'd like to use), scissors, pins, needle and thread}

STEP ONE: Lay out your tie, and start folding and pining in a manner that's pleasing to you.

STEP TWO: Lay it around your neck and add or remove folds to get the length you want.  Keep in mind you'll want to be able to have the necklace slip on and off your head after the button is sewn down.

STEP THREE: Take your needle and thread and tack down the folds from the back side of the necklace.

STEP FOUR: Place your button or accent piece and stitch down.

STEP FIVE: Enjoy your great necklace!!!

After I took this picture, it made me think this would be really cool sewn directly to the neckline of a shirt.  So... I just might have to do that with another shirt and another tie!
